Ten color guard teams gathered on November 8th at Patrick AFB to participate in the Florida Wing Cadet Competition. Teams competed in seven events, including drill, testing, panel quiz and a mile run.
Final results were announced Sunday, 9 November at the Base Theater. Group 2 continued our winning tradition in grand fashion. First place honors went to Marion County Composite Squadron. Gainesville Composite Squadron earned 2nd place.
The Marion County team's results included first place in Standard Drill, 2nd place in Inspection, 3rd place in Written Exam and 3rd place in the Mile Run.
The team was comprised of C/SMSgt Samuel Dauss (Commander), C/SSgt Mary Dauss (Junior Flag), C/Amn Joseph Miller (Right Guard), and C/A1C Richard Burke (Left Guard). Senior escorts were Maj Frank Swain and 1st Lt Cynthia Sweitzer.
Last year's champions from Gainesville Composite Squadron passed on the Wing Flag and the rifles to the new champions. The team is now preparing for Region Cadet Competition this spring at Maxwell AFB, AL. Congratulations to the team. We kept the title in Group 2, where it belongs!

Marion County Members After a Successful Cleanup Eleven cadets from Marion County Composite Squadron, aided by Major Swain, Lt Tamblingson, SM Schaetzl and a parent, Mr. Stuart Carnie, performed a community service project on 6 September 2008. In conjunction with the Adopt a Road program, the squadron is responsible for picking up litter on the highway alongside the Ocala International Airport three times a year. The cadets picked up 5 bags of trash from both sides of the highway for a 1 mile stretch.
